The Bulldogs are looking for redemption as they prepare for the Johnnies after extending their winning streak to eight games in decisive fashion last weekend, defeating both Sierra Nevada, and Cal State Fullerton by a combined score of 40-9.

The UMD Lacrosse team extended its win streak to eight games in decisive fashion last weekend, defeating both Sierra Nevada, and Cal State Fullerton by a combined score of 40-9. Coach Alex McNamara noted, “There is still no time for complacency” as the Bulldogs get ready to face St. John’s this weekend.

After arriving in San Diego in the early hours of Friday morning, the Dogs used their first day in California to catch up on sleep, and later get in a quick practice at the Robb Athletic Complex, where they would play their games.

Their first game was against #7 ranked Sierra Nevada, who defeated the Bulldogs last season  leaving them hungry for redemption. That feeling was evident with the Dogs leading 10-2 at the half. Things kept rolling in the second half resulting in a 21-6 final. Blake Barta went 17-6 at the faceoff X giving the Dogs a leg up in ball possession. The attackmen sealed the deal with senior Brian Tramonte scoring three goals, and Scott McNamara putting away seven throughout the game.

The next day the Dogs played in a matinee for their final game in California, facing #13 Cal State Fullerton at noon. Barta remained dominant on faceoffs, winning 18 out of 19 draws, giving the offense time to go to work. Tramonte had another three goals before halftime, and sophomore Jared Johnson played his part, scoring four goals. The defense took care of business whenever they had the opportunity with captain Nick Timmons picking up seven ground balls throughout the game. Coach Ben Blaeser said, “I’m proud of the way our units have come together, these guys have worked really hard to achieve their goals.”

UMD felt good about its performance, but quickly switched focus to their next contest against #6 ranked St. John’s. They play the Johnnies in Maple Grove, Minn., at 8:30 pm on Friday.

The Bulldogs are again looking for redemption as they prepare for the Johnnies. They lost to SJU twice last season, once February and again in a hard fought UMLC Tournament game. SJU has had an impressive season, beating #5 ranked Dayton in Nashville, and bringing  a 7-2 record going into Friday’s contest. The Bulldogs are again expecting a competitive game against a conference rival, while determined to add to their eight-game win streak.
