California Preview

It has been more than a week since the UMD Bulldogs spring break sweep vaulted them to #2 in the national polls. Since then the Dogs have been preparing for their next trip down to San Diego, California, to play #7 Sierra Nevada, and #12 Cal State Fullerton.

The trip will begin on Thursday when the Bulldogs fly from Minneapolis, to Los Angeles, and then make their way down the Pacific Coast to sunny San Diego. Friday will be a day for the team to get acclimated to the conditions, and get ready for the games on Saturday and Sunday.

UMD will face off against the Sierra Nevada Eagles at 2:00 p.m. (PDT) Saturday, at the Robb Athletic Field, just a few blocks from the Pacific Ocean. The Eagles are traveling to San Diego from Lake Tahoe, NV. Last year Sierra Nevada handed UMD one of their toughest losses of the season, beating the Bulldogs 10-2 on the St. John’s University campus. This year the Eagles have played a tough schedule, recently just falling short against St. Thomas in a 5-3 defensive battle, and also against top-ranked NDSU, losing 11-7. The Bulldogs are looking to redeem their loss from the previous season, and play a good game against the #7-ranked team.

The following day, UMD will play the Cal State Fullerton Titans back at the Robb Athletic Field at Noon. The Titans will be coming from Fullerton, a suburb of Anaheim. Cal State Fullerton currently has a record of 5-1, and they are hoping to make another appearance at the national championships where they were the #10 seed last season. Their game against the Bulldogs is already their second-to-last regular season game, so there will be lots to play for on both sides of the ball.

The Bulldogs  are looking forward to playing some quality teams, and some sunshine, on their trip to the Golden State, while determined to add to their current six-game win streak.
