St. Thomas leads MCLA-II bracket

ATLANTA – After finishing the season with a 14-0 record and winning the powerful UMLC league title, St. Thomas (Minn.) has been installed as the top seed in the 2016 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour, which was released on Sunday evening.

The national event will start on Monday, May 9, with first round games, followed by quarterfinals on Tuesday, semifinals on Thursday and the championship game on Saturday, May 14. The first two rounds will take place at UC Irvine before moving to Chapman University for the semifinals and finals in Orange, Calif.

This is the fourth time the Tommies have earned the top seed in the 12 years of the Division II championship. St. Thomas leads all D-II programs with four national championships and brings a 23-6 tournament record into this playoff. The Tommies draw Bridgewater (Mass.) State, the winner of the PCLL automatic qualifier, in the first round.

St. Thomas is one of three UMLC teams qualifying for nationals, but it was the CCLA showing its strength with five teams finding their way into the brackets. The SELC is the only other conference with multiple bids.

All tournament games will be streamed live via MCLA.us. For more information about the tournament, including ticket prices and accommodations, please visit the MCLA Tournament Championship page.
